i got the dynamo of volition

you know what i don't get?

people in general.

let me come clean. i don't have a tv. our family just plain doesn't own one, wouldn't get one if we needed to.

i know, what the heck? but hear me out.

a few years back our tv blew, and dad decided we weren't gonna buy a new one. mom and i were like shucks what an ass. but being techies, all of us got our own entertainment on our own computers. and i began to discover the massive choice of entertainment and stuff online, and the choice was growing too with the introduction of p2p programs torrents youtube and whatnot.

but i still thought we were missing out.

so once in a while i'd go back to my grandma's and go like hey i get to watch some tv yay! so i'd get on the couch, remote in hand and get ready for some entertainment.

hmm kinda boring. nevermind flip channel.

uhh. maybe the next one.

wtf is this. next.

don't worry there are about like 800 channels on this thing right.

flip

flip

flip

flip

oh what the- flip

watching tv is supposed to cure boredom, so why the hell am i bored actually WATCHING tv?

then i realised. i actually don't miss tv at all.

i know you don't get what i'm saying but for real, i don't miss watching tv at all. most people still find joy in watching tv because you do it everyday, you accept it as it is and you don't ask for more. once you stop and completely wean off it, you start to find other alternatives, and then tv just plain isn't so great anymore.

so what i'm really trying to talk about is choice.

we need to be reminded that we have choices sometimes, and we need to seriously exhaust those choices people because being spoonfed anything and everything the media wants you to ingest is bad to say the least.

i don't watch tv because i select exactly what i put in my mind. i don't listen to the radio because i determine exactly what is put on my playlist. i choose what i want to eat, i decide what i want to wear.

i choose to pick my own content of my own life, down to the last damn detail. (or at least i try)

do you?

to say that tv is a good source of entertainment, news and connectivity is old news. our media has developed, so develop with it. you realise everything that is made mainstream is carefully filtered and selected for your viewing right. if you think you're getting any truth (more like lies by omission) from your tv news, i can't even begin to tell you how wrong you are. mainstream media is manipulated to the agenda of the ruling government whatever that may be.

if your brain didn't register that, what i'm essentially saying is your elected representatives pick what you see, choose what you hear, determine what you consume.

hello? freedom of choice? are you going to blindly have that taken away?

picture this:

dinnertime. table is set. family members shuffle in one by one, take a plate, heap it high with food, shuffle back out. family sit around tv. family gather, but never really acknowledge one another. family gaze like zombies upon their glowing tv panel, mechanically chewing what they're brain subconsciously passes off as food. no conversation, no how was your days, no you'll never guess what happened to me todays.

just total undivided attention to the fucking inanimate television.

and suddenly *thank god* a real freakin voice speaks.

'dad can you pass the soya sauce?'

quality family time my colossal ass. sound familiar? sound like your typical dinnertime?

the united kingdom have set aside a day every year when the entire nation simply UNPLUGS. its NO TV DAY.

many people have begun to see the adverse effects on tv and have begun to give it up altogether, like this guy

who says he's

1. Becoming more aware of the TV’s presence
2. Noticing TV’s presence outside the home
3. Saving time4. Expanding socially
5. Seeking higher quality entertainment (told you so)
6. Feeling more ambitious
7. Spending less time on the computer (ok la this i disagree)
8. Not missing TV

heck, even the ever so philosophical and wise (&horny) beyond his years Jason Mraz condones it.

'In a household with no TV, it’s easy to bring good games to life. In our home, we are suckers for...'
okay so i was actually looking for this other post he mentioned about switching off the tv but i can't find it and i'm too lazy so this will do.

am i making any sense to you?

speaking from experience i can tell you there's NOTHING on tv you can't get online. the only difference is you get to choose.

choose your playlist. choose your tv programs. choose your government JUST BLOODY CHOOSE.

i'm not being self righteous or anything but seriously,

by your own volition, start today.

turn off your tv, and switch on your mind.

off to watch grey's anatomy now. meredith is such a whiny hag.
