i know its damn overdue, but

i lost count how many saturdays ago, smkbud(4) had its annual mal- i mean. Hari Bakat (pfft).

about 150 kids were involved, me included. i participated in choir and a band item, Accidental Superheroes,

consisting of (clockwise from left) janice, hauyon, me, john ting-a-ling, huajie and junyen. we arrived bright and early on saturday morning, ready to kick ass and blow minds.

warning: rant ahead.

the thing is, for the two days of rehearsal we had in KBU college, during which we sounded so sucky because the sound system was crap, and noise + bad sound system = garbage. so instead of phantom of the opera - beat it - that's what you get - love song as planned, we had to change it to phantom, wine red by the hush sound and our winning number, love song. we were promised better sound system. a better sound system that was about to cost us 2k for 2 hours. a better sound system with wireless handheld mics. on the day itself, participants were advised to come at 9 for soundtest with said glorified sound system, which we were informed would come at 6.30 in the morning to set up.

we arrived at 8 o clock to see the van only JUST arriving and moving in their colossal black amps and monitors. AT EIGHT O'CLOCK. what happened to 6.30 in the morning man. gosh.

so yeah by the time we did our soundcheck it was probably 9 plus. we waited so long we ate charkueytiao watched some movie on some tv and i even had time to like run to starbucks and back to get my makeup done okay. but finally it was done and things went okay. mics worked.
so it officially started at ten, opening with the school choir. and then eventually the 7th item approached, which was the item before ours. we were behind the curtains, setting up. there was hauyon on the drums at the back, junyen on the keyboard on the left, guitarists around. there was to be a mic at the keyboard, and two other wireless mics. one for me and one for junyen for the second song.

so we were setting up right. and we realized
the mic at the keyboard wasn't working. *2k technical my colossal ass* AND we were already announced. but due to technical difficulty (sucky mics and gay technical people) they couldn't allow the curtain to open because well the mic wasn't working. so the audience was left to wait and wonder what the hell was going on. after about 3 weeks, the mic finally worked and so the curtains opened, and accidental superheroes began their performance with phantom of the opera.

oh yeah and i was supposed to give an eerie scream, to freak everyone out, and i did scream. but gay mic never work. $*#!@##@!@ SERIOUSLY!

after 30 seconds of our phantom intro (which i d
aresay wasn't too bad =D) junyen came in with the hush sound's Wine Red. only no one heard it because AGAIN, the mic failed to function. seriously damn frustrating lor! so i ran across the stage to hold my mic for junyen to sing her part into. only then did everyone realize that the mics weren't working. after a while the her mic worked so we carried on through for wine red, which i *think* everyone enjoyed. i hope =)

and then it was time for
sara bareilles's love song. janice got on the keyboard junyen vacated to pick up her wireless mic, she was supposed to start singing first.

BUT GUESS WHAT.

you guessed it. her mic didn't work for the 3046th time. so we swapped mics so she could be heard. so MY mic wasn't working. AND DON'T TELL ME I NEVER ON KAY. i checked the mic, the red light was on, AND i pushed the button. it was all i could do to not throw the mic at the technical people, bloody gays. so when i sang, no one heard me (obviously).

so in the end, junyen and i
had to share one mic in the middle of the stage.

i cannot tell you how we actually kept our megawatt stage smiles plastered on our faces throughout the performance, because i really have no idea. all our plans for showmanship, all gone because we were TOO BUSY sharing ONE MIC in the middle of the stage. it was so infuriating. we were so, so unlucky.

but we finished our performance like sport
s anyway, to receive a tremendous round of applause.

so we'd like to thank everyone who cheered for us and showed your support, even when we sounded ridiculous. you guys are the best, the whole experience was great because of you.

so our performance finally came to an end, and we stepped into a line and took our bow. hearing the cheering and screaming from the crowd was awesome, and we were smiling like no tomorrow, but when the curtains closed...

MOTHERFATHER. WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT??

hahaha but anyway it was still a lot of fun =) i don't know how much we sucked exactly, its simply impossible to hear anything from up there. and impossible to see also. spotlights damn blinding wei! but i don't really care anymore. because we did our best, and it was enough. i'd say it was one of the best experiences, ever.
